Tropical Paradise

Most of us aren't lucky enough to live in a tropical paradise, but that doesn't mean we cant make our home feel like we do! Decorating your home with a tropical feel creates a very relaxed fun and bright place, laid back and stress-free! and who doesn't want that! :)

You can bring real life tropical plants into your home or go for oversized tropical prints like banana leafs and greenery on wallpaper, fabric, cushion, bedheads, artwork.... the options are endless !

These fabulous larger-than-life prints are certainly make a statement. Just be sure that the other décor items in your room is kept subtle so it doesn't compete with this fabulous tropical theme.

Take some inspiration from these homes, they do the tropical theme with such confidence and they look great!

Bring the outside in

Living walls are a beautiful way to bring the outside into your home... they are self sufficient vertical gardens that you can easily do yourself.  These are a fantastic idea in a world of ever decreasing garden and outdoor space and can instantly transform your space!

Not only are they beautiful but other benefits of these living walls are that they improve the quality of the air your breathe, they help improve the wellbeing of the occupants and also promote a calming and relaxed atmosphere.

Who wouldn't want an indoor garden after reading that!

Here are some garden walls to give you some inspiration for doing your own...

Graffiti Art

If you love to make a statement in your home, if you want something edgy, exciting, colourful and something different to make an impact ... then graffiti may just be the right thing for you!  It certainly isn't a new design trend but its probably something that not many people think of for the interior design of their home.
Graffiti can look amazing for a feature wall, and is perfect in place of artwork as it is a work of art in itself.

Its a fabulous way of expressing who you are or  what you like, and says a lot about your personality.  It would be perfect for a teenagers room as it stimulates the imagination and encourages expression outside the box!

If you're not brave enough to paint graffiti straight on your walls how about a hanging graffiti artwork instead?

Black walls

DustjacketAttic
I love black walls! They have a stunning dramatic sophisticated and seductive effect that can suit  either a modern or a classic interior style.

But they do take courage to do it.... I think it helps to have the right type of house to get away with black walls, one with high ceilings, light coloured floors, and lots of natural light ...

You can always soften the harshness of black walls by using timbers or textiles (rugs, throws etc) in your room, or by adding contrasting furniture which balances the rooms feel and makes it less heavy.
Do you think you're courageous enough to try back walls? Enjoy some inspiration and let me know what you think...

Wrap me up in Wallpaper!

Wallpaper has made a real resurgence recently, when you hear the word wallpaper, no longer do we think of the bad 70s or 80s wallpaper we may have grown up with ....now wallpaper is a huge design trend and not only are the patterns and colours limitless, but now you even have choices in the installation methods with the traditional glued on wallpaper or removable wallpaper, which is fantastic for renters, or those that don't want to commit to the decision to have permanent wallpaper for too long.

Check out these fabulous designs below, its great to see so many different styles I would have never thought would work but they absolutely do! Which do you like best?

I want one of each type but I don't have enough rooms in my house! They are all so beautiful and unique, each of them creates such a different space and vibe to the room...

I'm definitely adding them to my wishlist for my dream home :)

Interior Wall Ideas: #4 Tiles

Part four of my Interior Wall design ideas series: Tiles

Tiles certainly aren't anything new for use as a wall lining especially in wet areas (bathrooms, ensuites etc) But have you thought about using a feature tiled wall in other rooms like your Living or Dining Rooms?

This next tiled wall is awesome... the Temporary Museum for New Design (MILAN 2014) has recently opened and one of the exhibits was this tile wall from One Off Mosaic. A stunning tile mosaic wall with so much colour, gives such a spark to a room with its and bright and energetic splashes!

As stunning as this wall is, it's probably a bit too bright and bold to have in most of our living spaces...  But there are many other beautiful tile choices that are a bit more subtle, which can transform your living space to give it that wow factor.

The fabulous tiled feature walls below have texture patterns carved into their surfaces which turn ordinary walls into spectacular eye-catching surfaces.

These type of textured tiles can create a huge impact to a room, giving it an architectural feel with relatively little cost.

How about this Traditional Silk Polished Nero on Nero Hand Made Glazed Porcelain Feature tile with embossed pattern throughout?

Or these 3D geometric pattern wall tiles, first from Design Concepts, second from Garrison Hullinger Interior Design

If you liked the pressed tin look in my previous post you might like these embossed pressed metal look porcelain feature tiles? Aren't they great!

Tiled walls have a fantastic ability to visually transform the look and feel of a room dramatically adding interest with texture, depth or colour!

What do you think would you consider using tiles in your living space?

Interior Wall Ideas: #3 Pressed Tin

If you're an Offspring fan like me no doubt you would have noticed the gorgeous pressed tin walls in Nina's first apartment? aren't they stunning! I love that romantic elegance of them.

Pressed tin is easily sourced, you can get it from restoration and building suppliers in your local area.

It is made from aluminium which is light weight and flexible, and is corrosion resistant which allows the panels to be used in any external application as well as internal.

I just love how they create such an opulent, stunning elegant feature wall! I'd love to be able to do this in my house.

Here are some other beautiful examples of how you can use pressed tin in your home.

What do you think of pressed tin? I'm in love with the black and white ones, very luxurious indeed!
